Medina of Agadir (Cocco Polizzi Medina)

A Tribute to Traditional Moroccan Craftsmanship

Medina of Agadir (Cocco Polizzi Medina): A Tribute to Traditional Moroccan Craftsmanship

Unlike other Moroccan cities, Agadir lost its original Medina in the 1960 earthquake. However, Italian architect Cocco Polizzi built a stunning reconstructed Medina in the 1990s, located just outside the city. This handcrafted village was designed to preserve Moroccan architectural heritage, featuring cobblestone streets, artisan workshops, and traditional Berber houses.

The Medina serves as an open-air museum where visitors can explore Moroccan craftsmanship, with local artisans showcasing pottery, carpets, jewelry, and woodwork. It’s also home to cultural performances and restaurants serving authentic Moroccan cuisine.
